I see on your home page plea for UNICEF for the Iraqis and Peace Symbol.
What I would like to know is when Osama and his fanatics bombed the world trade center did you put up any type of Plea to help those poor Americans? Also I think it is about time the Americans took matters into their own hands and let the Middle East know we can't be pushed around. The Americans should bomb the Crap out of Iraq and cause as much pain to teach them a lesson. If America does'nt stand up for itself then we are no better than the French (who are cowards anyway).

UNICEF – United Nations Children´s Fund

24 March 2003: What UNICEF said at the UN briefing
"... in Basra there is the very real possibility now of child deaths, from the conflict, but also from diarrhoea and dehydration. We estimate that at least 100,000 children under the age of five are at risk.

"Briefing by Geoff Keele, UNICEF Communication Officer, IRAQ
UNICEF staff in Iraq were at work today focusing on the urgent need for clean water in city hospitals across Baghdad.
The importance of access to clean water is very much in the forefront of UNICEF action, as the lead agency for water in this emergency.
Frequent power cuts and the consequent cutting of water supplies to Iraq's second biggest city, Basra, is of considerable concern to UNICEF. This is the third day that reports say Basra has had limited water. The Wafa Al-Quaid water treatment plant provides 40 per cent of Basra's water needs, and feeds the Al Zubair Hospital. Currently, the plant is only partially functioning.
There must now be a threat of disease as tens of thousands of people in their homes, hospitals and care institutions attempt to cope and find what water they can from the river and other sources. Unfortunately the river is also where sewage is dumped.

UNICEF has repeatedly warned that bad water costs lives, especially among the most vulnerable, and the children of Iraq are some of the most vulnerable people in the world. Not only are they suffering from high malnutrition rates, in Basra there is the very real possibility now of child deaths, from the conflict, but also from diarrhoea and dehydration. We estimate that at least 100,000 children under the age of five are at risk.
UNICEF is currently looking at ways to provide emergency water provision as soon as conditions allow.
Over the past few years UNICEF has completely rehabilitated 37 water treatment plants, 23 compact water treatment units, ten sewerage facilities, benefiting 8.6 million people. These activities also included one of the main water treatment and sewage plants in Basra.
Today in Baghdad the UNICEF team has had talks with other agencies to look at priorities for action. One of the areas identified is the urgent need for emergency water tanks at city hospitals.

:The Iraqi goveerment has had the opportunity for years to develop an infrastructure to help their own people. Instead they have used this money to develop chemical weapons and harbor terrorists. I cannot see any way of helping the Iraqi people but to eliminate the current goverment. After the war is over Iraq with it's large Oil revenue will be able to Feed it's people and provide adequete water. This should have been done years ago. I can see nohting better than a swift American Victory in the area. This will create a society that will treat it's people well. All these years since the last gulf war instead of providing help to the people of Iraq , Countries such as France and Germany provided them with the technology to create Chemical/Biologcal weapons. This is the real reason the French and the Germans do not want the U.S. in there. I think they might find out more truth to these claims.

MILITARY intervention against Iraq would be a crime against peace demanding vengeance before God, the head of the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace has said.

"War is a crime against peace which cries for vengeance before God," said Archbishop Renato Raffaele Martino, speaking on Vatican Radio.

He stressed the deeply unjust and immoral nature of war, saying it was condemned by God because civilians were the worst sufferers.

Martino, formerly Vatican permanent representative to the UnitedNations, strongly denounced the determination of the United States and its allies to disarm Iraq by force.

"Do not reply with a stone to the child who asks for bread," he said.

"They are preparing to reply with thousands of bombs to a people that has been asking for bread for the last 12 years."

Stressing the Roman Catholic church would continue to insist on the need and the urgency of peace, he said: "As always, it will be the Good Samaritan who will bind the wounds of a wounded and weakened people."

Pope John Paul II, one of the most prominent opponents of war on Iraq, urged UN Security Council members yesterday to continue negotiations on the disarmament of Iraq and avert a looming military conflict.

"I want to remind UN members and particularly those who make up the Security Council that the use of force is the last resort after having exhausted all peaceful solutions, as stipulated by the UN charter," the Pope told tens of thousands of worshippers gathered in St Peter's Square.

"I lived through World War II and I survived the Second World War. For this reason, I have the duty to say 'Never again war'.

"We know that it is impossible to say peace at any price, but we all know how important our responsibility is."

:America needs to protect itself from these people and has every right to bting Saddam to his knees. If the world community has issue with this then too bad. While War is not the best solution for everything , sometimes it is needed. The Vatican didn't lose 3000 people in the WTC disaster. Theodore Roosevelt Best said it Walk Softly but carry a big stick, well nows the time to use the Big stick ! If all the world has concern of the Iraqi population then why are you not protesting oputside the Iraqi embassy ?? Surely the Germans and the French can get some people to protest the Iraq goverment! The thing is Europeans find it easy to blame America for all their ills. The French should be reminded that if the U.S. didn't become involved in WWII then they would be speaking German right now.
