To the Gottscheer Community,

Honored Mr. President, dear Gottscheer,

I wish to turn to you as the priest of the parish of Töplitz/ (Dolenjske Toplice) and as the manager of the parishes of Ainöd/ Soteska und Pöllandl/ (Koèevske Poljane).

The 12th issue of the Gottscheer Zeitung, December 2004, page 3, brought to my attention the article: “Help the Gottscheer, Surmount Barriers"

Since I am not a subscriber of the paper, I only recently read the above report written by Heinz Stritzl. In this report, the editor of the Gottscheer Zeitung quotes the Chairman of the Gottscheer Altsiedler Vereins, August Gril, at the 15th European Peoples Congress of the State of Carinthia, making the following claim:

"...yes, it is even denied that in the Pöllandl - valley exists a dual language area. It is also frightening that Gottscheer are locked out of the church in Pöllandl. The German inscriptions below the Stations of the Cross have been sawed off. ..."

As the responsible of the churches in Pöllandl at this Congress, I am forced to immediately reject this assertion:

I have never denied entry to either a group of Gottscheer nor individual persons who asked me for permission to visit the churches in the parish of Pöllandl. These churches are, as everywhere in Slovenia, locked only for security reasons.

1. I heard, however, that the Chairman of the Altsiedler Verein, August Gril and Beno Kop, a member of the management board of the Verein have, at least once, given such (false) information to visiting Gottscheer without at first inquiring of me if the group (at one time one from Graz) can see the interior of the churches in Bûchl and Pöllandl ! The group from Graz did turn to parishioner Maridi Tscherne who, in turn, asked me for permission which naturally she received. Subsequently, I myself then showed this group of Gottscheer the church in Bûchl. (Incidentally, this group reported on this visit in the publication Gottscheer Gedenkstätte, September/October 2003, page 4 ! )

2. The second assertion, namely that I caused the German inscription under the Stations of the Cross in Pöllandl be sawed off is laughable. Everyone visiting this beautiful Andreas church can convince himself that this is a false claim. Nothing was ever sawed off; nor has anyone ever suggested this or such an action ever discussed.

I ask, therefore, if anyone desires to visit the churches of the parish of Pöllandl (Büchl, Pöllandl or Kleinriegl) - please turn to me. I will personally see to it that he/she or a group can view these churches.

I greet you warmly and wish you and all members of your Verein health and Gods blessing and that you and all other Gottscheer and their descendants can, as often as possible visit their beloved Gottscheer homeland.

An die Gottscheer Gemeinschaft.


Sehr geehrter Herr Präsident, liebe Gottscheer,


Ich möchte mich an Sie als Pfarrer der Pfarre Töplitz/ (Dolenjske) Toplice und als Pfarrverwalter der Pfarren Ainöd/ Soteska und Pöllandl/ (Koèevske) Poljane wenden.

In der 12. Ausgabe der Gottscheer Zeitung, Dezember 2004, Seite 3, hat man mich auf den Artikel – Gottscheer helfen, Barrieren überwinden - aufmerksam gemacht.

Da ich leider kein Abonnent Ihrer Zeitung bin, habe ich den oben erwähnten Bericht von Herrn Heinz Stritzel erst vor kurzen gesehen. Der Redakteur der Gottscheer Zeitung zitiert den Vorsitzenden des Gottscheer Altsiedler Vereins August Gril, der auf dem 15. Europäischen Volksgruppenkongreß des Landes Kärnten behauptete: … Ja, es werde sogar geleugnet, daß es im Pölland -Tal ein zweisprachiges Gebiet gebe. Erschreckend sei auch, dass die Kirche in Pöllandl für die Gottscheer verschlossen sei. Die deutsche Inschrift unter dem Kreuzweg wurde kürzlich weggesägt.…

Als Verantwortlicher für die an dem Volksgruppenkongress erwähnten Kirchen in Pöllandl, muss ich diese Angabe sofort verneinen:

Ich habe noch nie einer Gruppe Gottscheern oder einer einzelnen Person, die mich um Besichtigung der Kirchen in der Pfarre Pöllandl gebeten hatte, dies verhindert. Die Kirchen sind, so wie auch sonst überall in Slowenien, nur aus Sicherheitsgründen abgeschlossen.

1. Es ist mir aber zu Ohren gekommen, dass der Vorsitzender des Altsiedler Vereins August Gril und deren Mitglied des Verwaltungsausschusses Beno Kop, mindestens einmal solche (falsche) Informationen den Gottscheern gegeben haben und zwar ohne mich überhaupt zu fragen, ob die Gruppe (damals aus Graz) die Kirchen in Büchl und Pöllandl besichtigen kann! Die Gruppe aus Graz, bzw. der Reiseführer Edelbert Lackner, hat sich dann an die Pfarrangehörige Gottscheerin Maridi Tscherne gewendet, die mich natürlich um Erlaubnis gebeten hatte und sie natürlich auch bekam. Ich habe dieser Gruppe Gottscheern dann selbst die Kirche in Büchl gezeigt (übrigens, sie berichteten über den Besuch auch in der Zeitung Gottscheer Gedenkstätte, September/ Oktober 2003, Seite 4!).

2. Die zweite Behauptung, nähmlich dass ich die deutsche Inschrift unter dem Kreuzweg in Pöllandl wegsägen ließ sind einfach lächerlich. Jeder, der einmal diese schöne Andreaskirche besucht hatte, kann sich darüber selbst überzeugen. Niemals wurde etwas weggesägt noch wurde so etwas jemals vorgeschlagen oder darüber diskutiert.

Ich bitte Sie also: wenn jemand die Kirchen der Pfarre Pöllandl (Büchl, Pöllandl oder Kleinriegl) besuchen möchte - bitte wenden Sie sich an mich.

Ich werde Jedem der Interesse hat, die Kirchen zeigen bzw. dafür sorgen, dass Er / Sie oder auch eine Gruppe, diese besichtigen kann.

Ich grüße Sie recht herzlich und wünsche Ihnen wie auch allen Mitgliedern Ihres Vereins viel Gesundheit und Gottes Segen, dass Sie persönlich, und alle anderen Gottscheer und deren Nachkommen noch so oft wie möglich ihr geliebte Heimat Gottschee besuchen können.

Spotovani g. predsednik,

Na V as se obraèam kot župnik župnije Toplice in upravitelj župnij Soteska in Poljane. V 12.številki meseènika Gottscheer Zeitung, december 2004, stran 3, sem bil opozorjen na èlanek Heinza Stritzla Gottscheer helfen Barrieren überwinden.

Ker sam nisem naroènik tega èasopisa, sem za èlanek izvedel šele sedaj. V èlanku avtor citira predsednika Društva Koèevarjev staroselcev Augusta Grila: … Ja, es werde sogar geleugnet, daß es im Pölland -Tal ein zweisprachiges Gebiet gebe. Erschreckend sei auch, dass die Kirche in Pöllandl für die Gottscheer verschlossen sei. Die deutsche Inschrift unter dem Krezweg wurde kürzlich weggesägt. … Ker sem odgovoren za župnijo Poljane, moram Grilove navedbe, izreèene na Manjšinskem kongresu dežele Koroške, takoj odloèno zanikati.

1. Še nikoli nisem prepreèil nobeni skupini ali posamezniku ogleda cerkva v župniji Poljane (ali kateri od drugih župnij). Cerkve so tako, kot povsod drugje, zaklenjene zaradi nevarnosti kraj in ne zato, da bi sedanjim ali nekdanjim prebivalcem teh krajev prepreèevali obisk cerkva.
Mi je pa znano, da sta vsaj v enem primeru (obisk skupine iz Gradca-Graz, junij 2002) predsednik Društva Koèevarjev staroselcev Gril in èlan Upravnega odbora istega društva, Beno Kop, dala Koèevarjem izjave, da ne dovolim obiska cerkva in sicer BREZ, DA BI ME SPLOH VPRAŠALA ZA KLJUÈ! Skupina, pod vodstvom g. Lacknerja je poljansko podružnico v Gorici (sprejel sem jih osebno, o èemer so tudi poroèali v glasilu Gottscheer Gedenkstätte) in župnijsko cerkev v Poljanah tudi obiskali, ker so se obrnili še na svojo rojakinjo in poljansko faranko Maridi Tscherne, ki me je za dovoljenje vprašala in ga tudi dobila.

2. Trditev, da sem pred kratkim dal odžagati nemške podnapise pod križevim potom v Poljanah, so prav tako neresniène- o tem se lahko preprièa vsak obiskovalec te lepe Andrejeve cerkve. Nihèe jih ni in jih tudi ne misli odstraniti ali odžagati.

V primeru torej, da si želi kakšna skupina ali posameznik iz Vašega društva ogledati katero od cerkva v župniji Poljane, se lahko obrne name in mu bom ogled zagotovo omogoèil.
Želim Vam obilo zdravja in božjega blagoslova v upanju, da boste Vi osebno, Vaši potomci in èlani Vašega društva še pogosto obiskali rojstno Koèevsko.
